Building the House

Cayuga Health System approaches diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a strategy and way of life that allows us all to thrive. We believe diversity, equity, and inclusion work is not relegated to a few people or departments. Instead, DEI is an approach that must embed into every aspect of how we care for our patients, value our employees, and serve our community. We believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion, not only because it is morally right; but because it will increase efficiency, lead to better patient care, inspire creativity, improve profitability, enhance our community’s health outcomes, and much more. We recognize the process of fully realizing our goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion is a slow build. Nonetheless, we are committed to building a house of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Education and Structures that Support an Inclusive Culture

Having a workforce that is culturally competent and culturally responsive is critical as we build our house of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The better equipped we are at responding to the culturally diverse needs or our community, the better the experience for everyone.
